Matthias Eckhart

I am currently a postdoctoral scientist at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. Previously, I have worked for Amazon, SBA Research, University of Vienna, TU Wien, and NXP Semiconductors.

My research interests include cyber-physical systems, security and privacy, and software engineering.

Served as co-publication chair for the 55th Annual IEEE/IFIP International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks (DSN).
Moved back to Vienna to join the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology as a (postdoctoral) scientist, focusing on cyber-physical systems security.
Successfully defended my PhD thesis with highest distinction at TU Wien.
Moved to Berlin to join Amazon, working on privacy and responsible AI.
Selected as a Rising Star in Cyber-Physical Systems 2024 (Link Lab at UVA Engineering, University of Virginia). Supported by a travel grant from ACM SIGBED.
Served as publication chair for the 19th European Dependable Computing Conference (EDCC).
Winner of the ESA Technology Transfer Competition Austria 2023. Submission: AI-Enhanced Security-Aware Engineering for Automotive Cyber-Physical Systems. Awarded by the European Space Agency and Brimatech Services GmbH.
Received the Critical Infrastructure Award, awarded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) and sponsored by team Technology Management GmbH.
Completed a three-month research visit at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo, as part of the NII International Internship Program, contributing to the group of Prof. Isao Echizen.

Received the GRAWE High Potential Award for my master's thesis on the privacy aspects of web analytics. Awarded by the Grazer Wechselseitige Versicherung Aktiengesellschaft.
Joined SBA Research as a researcher, working on industrial control systems security.
